Homes for Homes—a promise to help end homelessness

News -
The amazing people at The Big Issue have created a new social enterprise to help end homelessness. It’s called Homes for Homes. And it needs all of us to make a simple promise to help it make it work.

Every night 116,000 people in Australia sleep homeless. While another 1.5 million live in serious housing stress. They are our most vulnerable women and men, as well as young families, including over 44,000 children. These people are being forced to live this way because of a chronic shortage of social and affordable housing. That’s where Homes for Homes comes in.

Homes for Homes is a simple promise that when a Homes for Homes home sells—yours, mine or a developers’—a small 0.1% of the sale price will be donated, helping build homes for Australians in need. Homelessness is an issue too big for any one person, business or government to go alone. But together, we have a simple community empowered solution to a seemingly insurmountable problem.

Homes for Homes was created by one of Australia’s largest and most effective social enterprises, The Big Issue. As a proud partner to The Big Issue, we have helped them create a new brand to launch Homes for Homes. The new brand is about bringing a simplicity, professionalism and elegance to a cause that targets diverse audience segments; from property developers to homeowners like you and I and even banks.

The brand was recently launched to industry at AHURI National Housing Conference (NHC), the largest social and affordable housing conference in Australasia. The new website, homesforhomes.com.au is now live. The new brand collateral will be distributed to developer partners over the coming months. And we’re currently working on the communications program to launch Homes for Homes to Australian consumers.
